VANCOUVER — Laurent Brossoit made 40 saves for his first NHL shutout, and the Winnipeg Jets defeated the Vancouver Canucks 1-0 at Rogers Arena on Saturday.
Mark Scheifele scored the only goal with 1:32 left in the third period when he finished a give-and-go off the rush with Dustin Byfuglien with a one-timer from the left face-off circle past Jacob Markstrom on the blocker side.
Winnipeg (24-10-2) has won 11 of its past 13 games and eight in a row against the Canucks.
Markstrom made 22 saves for the Canucks (17-18-4), who lost for the third time in the past nine games (6-2-1).
Brossoit, who was born on Vancouver Island but grew up in the nearby suburb of Surrey, was making his first start in his hometown, and his mom and grandmother were in the crowd.
He threw out his right pad to stuff Elias Pettersson on a rebound in the crease at 11:40 of the first period, and made several saves in tight while being outshot 17-7 in the second.
Brossoit stopped Josh Leivo on a deflection in the slot with 10 seconds left in the third to preserve his fifth straight win. He is 8-1-1 with a .939 save percentage this season.
