Shaw could return to Canadiens lineup against Ducks

Andrew Shaw could return to the Montreal Canadiens lineup against the Anaheim Ducks at Bell Centre on Tuesday.

The forward has missed the past 11 games because of a neck injury sustained against the Dallas Stars on Dec. 31. He was cleared for contact and practiced Friday for the first time since being injured.

“I have to make sure I can come back and start off where I left off,” Shaw said Friday. “That’s what I have to focus on, making sure my timing is right and that everything is perfect before I can come back.”

The Canadiens start a five-game homestand against the New Jersey Devils at Bell Centre on Saturday (2 p.m. ET; TSN2, RDS, MSG+, NHL.TV), their first game since their mandated five-day break after the 2019 Honda NHL All-Star Weekend, and then play the Edmonton Oilers on Sunday.

Shaw has 24 points (11 goals, 13 assists) in 36 games.

“[Shaw] is a big part of this group,” center Max Domi said. “We’ve all voiced how much he means to this team not only on the ice but off the ice. The character and experience he has goes a long way. He’s a great guy. You know what you’re getting every day.”
