WINNIPEG — Joe Pavelski scored shorthanded at 2:49 of overtime to give the San Jose Sharks their third straight win, 3-2 against the Winnipeg Jets at Bell MTS Place on Tuesday.
Logan Couture and Marcus Sorensen scored, Kevin Labanc had two assists, and Martin Jones made 25 saves for San Jose (31-16-7).
Pavelski scored from the left face-off circle off a pass from Brent Burns on a 2-on-1 to win it. Burns forced a turnover in the Sharks zone to start the rush.

“We made some good plays, and we get a turnover on the [penalty kill] there in overtime and we were able to finally catch them,” Pavelski said.
Blake Wheeler and Mathieu Perreault scored for the Jets (34-16-3), who lost for the first time in four games. Connor Hellebuyck made 35 saves.
“I think any loss in overtime is a bit more frustrating than regulation because you’re right there and you’re tasting it,” Hellebuyck said. “We’ve done so well in overtime, so we can’t get too mad. But man, those are the ones you want.”
Wheeler gave the Jets a 1-0 lead at 3:08 of the first period when he scored on a wrist shot through Sharks defenseman Justin Braun‘s legs.
Couture tied it 1-1 with a wrist shot from the point on the power play at 10:54. It was his 20th goal.

Perreault reached 300 NHL points (119 goals, 181 assists) when he scored to give the Jets a 2-1 lead 51 seconds into the second period.
Winnipeg’s Mark Scheifele scored on the power play at 9:35, but San Jose coach Peter DeBoer challenged for offside, and the goal was overturned after video review showed Wheeler enter the zone ahead of the puck.
“To be honest, that goal that got called back was probably a big part of this game, and it gave our PK a little boost,” Pavelski said. “We settled down because they kind of … they did what they wanted on that power play for a while.”
Sorensen tied the game 2-2 at 2:35 of the third period when he scored with a quick wrist shot after he got to a loose puck.
“Being down just one goal, I thought we were a little bit lucky to be in that spot,” Couture said. “[Jones] made some big saves, and we got that break on the goal that was called back, so wanted to take advantage of that and give ourselves a chance to win the game, and that’s what we did.”
Hellebuyck made the save against Tomas Hertl on a breakaway at 10:04 to keep it tied.
“I don’t know how many breakaways he stopped, or backdoor tap-ins,” Wheeler said of Hellebuyck. “He made just some unbelievable saves. So it’s too bad we couldn’t get the job done, because he had an incredible effort tonight.”

Jets defenseman Josh Morrissey left the game at 10:54 of the first period after blocking a Labanc shot. He played one shift in the second before being ruled out for the remainder of the game with a lower-body injury. Coach Paul Maurice said Morrissey is day to day and could play at the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.
They said it
“You know, we had some good players out there that made some big-time plays. The pass [Brent Burns] gave to [Joe] Pavelski was world-class, and it was a rocket. And the way [Pavelski] handled it and stuck it in the net was world-class, so that’s what great players do.” — Sharks coach Peter DeBoer on their shorthanded goal in overtime
“I wasn’t nearly as nervous as the first one, I’ll tell you that. They are two different entities. The 1,500 part is a personal thing, kind of away from the game, and then there’s the game itself. It was fateful that Pete [DeBoer] was behind the bench, being that we started our coaching careers together. I certainly would have liked to win it, but no more, necessarily, than any other night. But it was a nice lead-up to the game. I got an awful lot of texts from close friends and people around the League. So I appreciated that a lot.” — Jets coach Paul Maurice on his 1,500th NHL game
