It wasn’t as fun as it looked – at least that’s what Joey Lawrence seems to be saying now that he’s the latest houseguest to get the boot from Celebrity Big Brother. After spending 18 days in the house, Lawrence has plenty of thoughts about the show’s second season on CBS, and they aren’t all that positive.
ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY: Joey, you legit guessed Patriots and the Rams are in the Super Bowl when you came out of the house. How did you do that?
JOEY LAWRENCE I know! I was pretty impressed.
Julie Chen was right about the skin care idea. It’s crazy how good you look. What do in that 45-minute prep in time before bed?
Aw thank you very much. I try to do my best to keep it all on point. It’s a series of things. There’s a 15-minute shower thrown in there … there’s a finishing crème and moisturizer. I also take time to collect my thoughts and center myself to get ready for bed.
When I talked to Jonathan Bennett, he said there was already a lot of tension in the house and he said that worried him. Do you agree with that?
I totally agree. Last season, there were a lot more people who were in the right mind to play this game. This year, people came in hot and emotional. These are grown adults throwing f-bombs. With all the stuff going on in the world today, people want to turn on the TV and watch people having fun with the game.
Do you believe it’s all coming from the women?
I do. There are a couple of sneaky, very manipulative guys like Rick [Williams, former NFL player]. I don’t know him personally and we didn’t have more genuine moments, which is unfortunate because you want to be able to get to know people. That’s part of the game. The women are very emotional. It’s not fun when people are throwing personal insults and dropping f-bombs in the house. It’s pretty crazy.
Could you get a word in edgewise?
Dina seems to be keeping a low profile. Your thoughts?
It’s smart. She seems to be swayed very easily one way or another. I don’t know who she is truly because she [didn’t show] who she actually was, unlike Jonathan and Ryan. In those private moments, we weren’t talking about the game. I really respected that. That’s what it is about, being yourself. I don’t know who Dina is. She is slightly more subdued than everyone else.
How was the relationship between Kandi and Tamar when you left? Had they stopped fighting?
To best honest with you, I have no idea. Both of those ladies know the reality TV world very well, I do not. I’m happy that I don’t. I’m very glad that get I hired to play characters and not make a living based off of myself. They are very good at manipulating moments. I don’t know how real or not, those arguments were. I had no idea if they were part of gameplay. But they’re very good at sucking the energy out of the room and putting on a show. I don’t know them because we had very few genuine moments.
Did you have fun?
Um, yes it was challenging for me. I’m always up for a challenge. I was thankful for when I met Ryan. We had a cool friendship. We’ve already spoken, which is really cool. Other than it was difficult to be in there with that kind of energy. But I’m thankful for the opportunity that CBS gave me.
What is your prediction?
I think the person who probably has the edge right now might be Tamar because at the end of the day I don’t think Natalie and Lolo can really stand up to her. She’s a very powerful person and likes to overpower you with her emotion, although Lolo is pretty much out of control most of the time. She’s not strong. Tamar is stronger than her. I would say Tamar at the moment unless something drastic happens.
