Every year millions of dolls are created, perfectly designed to bring joy to people everywhere, but what happens to the dolls that aren’t so perfect?
The end up in Uglyville with Blake Shelton, that’s what. In the new trailer for the upcoming animated flick UglyDolls, Kelly Clarkson voices the character of Moxy, an imperfect doll who endeavors to become part of the real world and find the perfect child for her, despite her flaws.
Clarkson stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show Tuesday to premiere the clip and shared that it had always been her ambition to be in an animated movie. “My whole dream was to be in an animated film,” she explains. “But I did think I’d play a princess, so it’s pretty funny that mine is UglyDolls.” Despite the altered expectations, if didn’t take much for the singer to get into character. “Literally, I’m not acting,” she says. “It just kind of evolved into me. She’s very positive; we’re very similar. I just didn’t want to act. I was like, ‘Can we make her like me?’”
The upcoming movie also features the voices of Nick Jonas, Pitbull, Janelle Monáe, Wanda Sykes, and more. If Clarkson’s reaction to the film is anything to go by, might be best to pack tissues when you head the theater to see it. “When I saw what the story was about, I bawled,” she says. “It’s so cute. It’s got heart, it’s got great music and a great cast.”
UglyDolls find their way into theaters May 3. Watch the trailer above.
