Syracuse head men’s basketball coach Jim Boeheim reportedly struck and killed a man with his vehicle on Interstate 690 in Syracuse, New York, late Wednesday night.

According to Douglass Dowty and Sarah Moses Buckshot of Syracuse.com, Boeheim’s car struck the man after he exited his vehicle following an unrelated crash.

In a statement provided to Kennedy Rose of the Daily Orange, Syracuse police said 51-year-old Jorge Jimenez was killed:

Boeheim had no alcohol in his system and was released after being questioned by police. Police have also said Boeheim will not be charged at this time, per Rose.

“I am heartbroken that a member of our community died as the result of last night’s accident,” Boeheim said in a statement, per Jeff Borzello of ESPN. “Juli and I extend our deepest sympathies to the Jimenez family. Out of respect for those involved, I will not be providing further comment at this time.”

Police added that Boeheim swerved to avoid Jimenez’s abandoned car, which was in the middle of the road after striking a guardrail. That resulted in Boeheim hitting Jimenez, who was standing by the side of the road.

Boeheim fully cooperated with police and remained at the scene of the collision along with the driver of the abandoned vehicle, who was not injured and passed a field sobriety test.

The crash occurred just hours after the 74-year-old Boeheim led the Orange to a 69-49 win over the No. 18 Louisville Cardinals at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.
