Flyers improve to 9-0-1 in past 10, hand Ducks seventh straight loss

PHILADELPHIA — Carter Hart matched an NHL record with his eighth straight win for the Philadelphia Flyers when they handed the Anaheim Ducks their seventh consecutive loss, 6-2 at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday.

The 20-year-old goalie made 30 saves and tied Jocelyn Thibault for the longest winning streak by a goalie before his 21st birthday; Thibault went 8-0-0 with the Quebec Nordiques from March 6-26, 1995.

Sean Couturier had a goal and two assists for Philadelphia (25-23-7), which is 9-0-1 in its past 10 games. Phil Varone, Michael Raffl and Travis Konecny each had a goal and an assist.

Nick Ritchie had a goal and an assist for Anaheim (21-26-9), which lost its seventh straight game and has two wins in its past 21 games (2-15-4). Adam Henrique scored and Kevin Boyle, making his NHL debut, made 24 saves.

Varone gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead 2:44 into the first period with a shot from the right hash marks, and Couturier scored to make it 2-0 at 10:24.

Raffl made it 3-0 with a shorthanded goal at 11:44, and Oskar Lindblom had Couturier’s centering pass go in off his right skate at 17:46 to make it 4-0.

Boyle, who was recalled from San Diego of the American Hockey League on Saturday, replaced Chad Johnson at the start of the second period. Johnson allowed four goals on 14 shots in the first.

Henrique scored a power-play goal 51 seconds into the second period to make it 4-1. The goal was upheld after the Flyers unsuccessfully used a coach’s challenge that the play was offside.

Ritchie made it 4-2 with a power-play goal at 4:57 of the third period.

Nolan Patrick‘s power-play goal at 12:15 put the Flyer ahead 5-2, and Konecny scored on a rebound with 1:11 remaining to make it 6-2.

The Flyers acquired forward Byron Froese and defenseman David Schlemko in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Christin Folin and forward Dale Weise prior to the game. Froese and Schlemko were assigned to Lehigh Valley of the AHL.
