Danai Gurira leaving The Walking Dead in season 10: Report

First it was Lauren Cohan. Then it was Andrew Lincoln. And now Danai Gurira is planning her exit from The Walking Dead, EW has confirmed.

Much like the way Lincoln stayed for a handful of episodes in the current season 9 and will now transition into a series of three Walking Dead movies, Gurira will appear in what The Hollywood Reporter — which first reported the news — describes as a “handful of episodes” for season 10, and then likely appear in offshoot Walking Dead movies (perhaps some of the same ones with Lincoln). Cohan could also potentially return for Walking Dead movies (or the show itself) depending on what happens with her new show for ABC, Whiskey Cavalier.

AMC declined to comment.

With her contract up at the end of this season, Gurira was asked by EW before the start of season 9 if this would be her last. “Well, I’m going to keep that one to myself,” she told EW then. “But what I do know is that we are a very close-knit family, and we love each other, we love this experience, and we all will have our own narratives about how, and where, and when [we want to leave]. But the thing we enjoy is that it’s an incredible time we are able to have and been able to have with each other.”
