The Calgary Flames jumped two spots to No. 3 and the San Jose Sharks moved up four spots to No. 4. The Vegas Golden Knights are No. 8, giving the Pacific Division three teams in the top half of the rankings.
The Tampa Bay Lightning maintained their spot as the unanimous No. 1 for a sixth consecutive week, and the Winnipeg Jets were No. 2 for a fifth consecutive week.
The Toronto Maple Leafs took the biggest tumble among the top eight teams, falling four spots to No. 7. The Carolina Hurricanes, who have played their way back into the Stanley Cup Playoff race by winning seven of their past nine games, replaced the Dallas Stars at No. 16.
To create the power rankings, each of the 13 staff members puts together his or her version of what the Super 16 should look like. Those are submitted and a point total is assigned to each.
The team picked first is given 16 points, second gets 15, third gets 14, and so on down to No. 16, which gets one point.

1. Tampa Bay Lightning (36-9-2)

Hit: The Lightning have lost consecutive games once this season (Nov. 10-13). They responded to a 5-1 loss at the New York Islanders on Sunday with a 2-0 win at the Dallas Stars on Tuesday.
Miss: They have allowed the second-most goals in the first period this season (54), behind the Chicago Blackhawks (63).

2. Winnipeg Jets (30-14-2)
Total points: 187
Last week: No. 2
Hit: Backup goalie Laurent Brossoit is 7-0-0 with one shutout, a 2.26 goals-against average and a .938 save percentage in his past seven games. Forward Kyle Connor has five goals in his past six games.
Miss: Patrik Laine has three points (two goals, one assist) in his past 13 games. The forward is shooting 5.1 percent in that span (2-for-39).

3. Calgary Flames (30-13-5)

Hit: The Flames have an NHL-best plus-37 goal differential in the third period (74-37). Next best is the Nashville Predators’ plus-19.
Miss: Defenseman Travis Hamonic has missed two games because of an illness in his family.

Hit: The Sharks have an NHL-best plus-18 first-period goal differential (61-43).

5. Nashville Predators (28-16-4)
Total points: 155

Hit: Mattias Ekholm has scored an NHL career-high 36 points (six goals, 30 assists) in 47 games. The defenseman’s previous high was 35 points (eight goals, 27 assists) in 82 games in 2015-16.
Miss: The Predators are 0-for-12 on the power play in their past three games and 2-for-25 in their past eight games.

6. Washington Capitals (27-14-5)
Total points: 133

Hit: Alex Ovechkin needs five points to tie Sergei Fedorov for the most points in NHL history by a Russia-born player. The forward has 1,174 points (640 goals, 534 assists) in 1,049 games. Fedorov, a Hall of Fame forward, had 1,179 points (483 goals, 696 assists) in 1,248 games.
Miss: The Capitals have been outscored 13-4 in a three-game losing streak.
7. Toronto Maple Leafs (28-15-2)
Total points: 131

Hit: The Maple Leafs are 89.3 percent on the penalty kill (25-for-28) in 12 games since Dec. 18 after going 78.2 percent (68-for-87) in their first 33 games.
Miss: They have blown a lead in three of their four losses this month. They had a 2-0 lead against the Colorado Avalanche and lost 6-3. They led 2-1 against the Boston Bruins and lost 3-2. They led 2-0 against the Minnesota Wild and lost 4-3. They also lost 4-0 against the Nashville Predators.
8. Vegas Golden Knights (28-17-4)

Hit: Brandon Pirri has at least one point in 10 of the 11 games he has played this season. The forward has 13 points (eight goals, five assists).
Miss: The Golden Knights are 0-for-11 on the power play in their past three games and 1-for-30 in their past 10 games.
9. Columbus Blue Jackets (28-15-3)
Total points: 112
Last week: No. 9
Hit: The Blue Jackets have won four in a row and are 12-3-1 since Dec. 6. They are in first place in the Metropolitan Division with 59 points and 28 regulation/overtime wins (ROW) in 46 games. They also haven’t allowed a power-play goal in seven straight games (16-for-16).
Miss: Alexander Wennberg scored his only goal of the season Nov. 10. In the 29 games since then, the center has 10 assists and 30 shots on goal.

10. Boston Bruins (26-16-5)

Hit: Tuukka Rask has 251 wins, one from tying Tiny Thompson for most by a goalie in Bruins history. Rask is expected to start against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday.
Miss: David Backes was a healthy scratch for a 4-3 loss at the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. The forward has one goal in his past 14 games.
11. Pittsburgh Penguins (25-15-6)
Total points: 91
Last week: No. 9
Hit: Kris Letang is one goal from tying Paul Coffey’s record for most by a Penguins defenseman. Letang has 107 goals in 726 games after scoring in a 5-2 loss to the Sharks on Tuesday. Coffey scored 108 in 331 games for the Penguins from 1987-91.
Miss: Forward Patric Hornqvist has missed three games with a concussion.
12. New York Islanders (26-15-4)
Total points: 62

Hit: The Islanders have eight forwards with at least 10 goals this season: Anders Lee (16), Brock Nelson (16), Mathew Barzal (13), Anthony Beauvillier (12), Casey Cizikas (11), Josh Bailey (10), Jordan Eberle (10) and Valtteri Filppula (10). The Islanders haven’t had at least eight players with at least 10 goals through 45 games since 1984-85.
Miss: Not much here considering they’re 12-3-0 in their past 15 games and two of the losses were by one goal.

Hit: Saku Maenalanen had two goals in a 6-2 loss against the New York Rangers on Tuesday and has three in the past two games. The rookie forward has four goals in eight games since being recalled from Charlotte of the American Hockey League on Jan. 1.
Miss: The Hurricanes have allowed six power play goals in the past four games, including 3-on-3 penalty kills against the Rangers. They’re 19th in the NHL on the penalty kill at 79.0 percent.
