Sixty residents have moved back into Opal Tower

The decision to return to the tower lies in the hands of residents of the builder Icon. Icon in turn, told residents some units were safe to move in.

Engineer WSP has been tasked with undertaking rectification works and both Icon and WSP confirmed plans have been sent to third-party engineers, Rincovitch and Cardno for approval. Rincovitch is Icon’s third-party engineer while Cardno reports to the body corporate.

Developer Ecove – despite resident claims they are “silent” on the disaster – continues to offer a customer care Team and hotline to assist residents who have moved back.

“Our role as developer is to advocate on behalf of owners to ensure that any defects are dealt with,” chief executive Bassam Aflak said.

“We are actively applying pressure on the builder and their engineers to get to the bottom of this issue, undertake the remedial works and have all residents returned to the building as soon as possible.”

“Despite individual claims of silence, many residents have contacted our office to thank us for our support and being available.”

“The majority are understanding of this unfortunate situation and recognise that this isn’t an issue caused by Ecove or the quality we strive to deliver.”

Despite the prominence of the disaster and while each group is doing its best to assist residents, communication between the three groups, Ecove, Icon and WSP has rarely been synchronised or consistent, both to residents and the public. Two weeks ago, a blame game erupted between Icon and Ecove.

Information from WSP is particularly scant.
