Pettersson injured in Canucks game against Canadiens

MONTREALElias Pettersson left with an apparent leg injury in the second period of the Vancouver Canucks game against the Montreal Canadiens at Bell Centre on Thursday.

The 20-year-old forward was face down on the ice after he fell awkwardly when his legs got tangled with Montreal forward Jesperi Kotkamieni at 5:44 of the period. Pettersson went to the locker room and the Canucks said he will not return because of a lower-body injury.

Named to the NHL All-Star Game on Wednesday, Pettersson leads rookies with 42 points (22 goals, 20 assists) in 38 games. He was NHL Rookie of the Month in October and December.

Pettersson broke a Canucks record held by Pavel Bure with his seventh game-winning goal this season, completing his first hat trick in a 4-3 overtime win at the Ottawa Senators on Wednesday.
