NEW YORK — Sidney Crosby had a goal and an assist, and the Pittsburgh Penguins won their seventh straight game with a 7-2 victory against the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday.
Kris Letang, Evgeni Malkin, Jake Guentzel and Dominik Simon each had a goal and an assist for the Penguins (22-12-6), who are 12-2-1 in their past 15 games. Matt Murray made 28 saves and is 6-0-0 with a .955 save percentage in his past six starts since returning from a lower-body injury on Dec. 14.
Ryan Strome and Pavel Buchnevich scored for the Rangers (17-15-7), who have lost seven of their past nine home games (2-2-5). Henrik Lundqvist allowed six goals on 18 shots for before being pulled in the third period. He was replaced by Alexandar Georgiev, who made six saves.
Zach Aston-Reese gave Pittsburgh a 1-0 lead at 6:29 of the second period.
Guentzel made it 2-0 at 11:11 after his shot from the left circle was deflected in by Rangers defenseman Marc Staal. Letang scored to make it 3-0 at 12:20 with a snap shot from the left circle.
Strome scored 26 seconds later, deflecting a Brady Skjei shot to cut it to 3-1.
Simon scored at 15:45 for a 4-1 lead. It was his first goal in 17 games.
Malkin scored to make it 5-1 at 1:03 of the third period, but Buchnevich scored 19 seconds later to make it 5-2.
Tanner Pearson scored a power-play goal to make it 6-2 at 4:40.
Crosby extended the lead to 7-2 at 13:56. He has at least two points in each of his past five games (three goals, nine assists).
