Brad Marchand unknowingly kept up the Boston sports tradition of celebrating a big win with a snow angel.
The Boston Bruins forward cut a figure on the ice at Notre Dame Stadium after their 4-2 victory against the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2019 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic.
Marchand’s snow angel may have been inspired by Lonie Paxton, the former New England Patriots long snapper who did two snow angels after their playoff and Super Bowl XXXVI wins in 2002.
Or perhaps he saw the video of the Bruins fan who did a snow angel (puddle angel?) after a victory against the Toronto Maple Leafs in Game 7 of the 2018 Eastern Conference First Round in April?
But no. Instead it was a just spur-of-the-moment decision by Marchand.
“Someone was yelling at me to do a snow angel, so [I] figured [I’d] take in every last minute,” Marchand said after the game. “Toward the end of the game, you realize it’s coming to an end, and you just want to stay out there and enjoy it.”
