Hutchinson, Maple Leafs shut out Canucks

TORONTOMichael Hutchinson made 28 saves in his second start with the Toronto Maple Leafs, a 5-0 win against the Vancouver Canucks at Scotiabank Arena on Saturday.

Auston Matthews had a goal and two assists, and Trevor Moore scored his first NHL goal for the Maple Leafs (27-12-2), who have won six of their past eight games.

Jacob Markstrom made 29 saves for the Canucks (20-21-4), who went 3-3-0 on a six-game road trip.

The Maple Leafs took a 1-0 lead at 8:54 of the first period when Tavares deflected Morgan Rielly‘s shot at the top of the crease. Moore made it 2-0 at 14:30 when he got the puck in the defensive zone, got around Canucks defenseman Derrick Pouliot at the offensive blue line, and shot between Markstrom’s pads.

Matthews put Toronto up 3-0 at 4:45 of the third period on a wraparound. It was his 20th goal of the season, his third consecutive 20-goal season to start his NHL career.

Johnsson scored at 11:55 to make it 4-0. Ozhiganov put the Maple Leafs up 5-0 at 14:49 when his shot from the bottom of the right face-off circle went off Canucks defenseman Erik Gudbranson in front of the net.

The Canucks played without forward Elias Pettersson, who injured his right leg Thursday in a 2-0 loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
