FX’s Fosse/Verdon biographical series will dance to TV screens this spring.
The network announced Wednesday the eight-episode Michelle Williams/Sam Rockwell-starring program — about the romantic and creative partnership between filmmaker-choreographer Bob Fosse and Broadway dancer Gwen Verdon — will premiere Tuesday, April 9 at 10:00 p.m. ET.
Produced by Thomas Kail, Steven Levenson, Joel Fields, and Hamilton‘s Lin-Manuel Miranda, Fosse/Verdon will explore the pair’s navigation of the rapidly evolving world of entertainment in the mid-to-late 20th century. The show will also feature Fosse’s iconic choreography as “explores the hidden corners of show business, the price of pursuing greatness, and the suffering inflicted in the name of art,” according to a press release.
FX previously announced The Leftovers actress Margaret Qualley will play Fosse’s collaborator-lover Ann Reinking, while Broadway star Norbert Leo Butz (My Fair Lady) will play Paddy Chayefsky. The series also features Aya Cash (You’re the Worst) as Joan Simon; Nate Corddry (Mindhunter) as Neil Simon; Bianca Marroquin (In the Heights) as Chita Rivera; Kelli Barrett (Rock of Ages) as Liza Minnelli; Ethan Slater (SpongeBob SquarePants: The Broadway Musical) as Joel Grey, and Laura Osnes (Cinderella) as Shirley MacLaine.
Fosse/Verdon premieres Tuesday, April 9 at 10:00 p.m. ET on FX. Watch the series’ teaser trailer above.
