Tierney scores twice in Senators win against Red Wings

DETROIT — Chris Tierney scored twice, and the Ottawa Senators defeated the Detroit Red Wings 4-2 at Little Caesars Arena on Friday.

Thomas Chabot had a goal and an assist, and Mark Stone scored for Ottawa (14-15-4), which had lost four of its past five games (1-3-1). Craig Anderson made 26 saves.

Luke Glendening and Dylan Larkin scored for the Red Wings (14-15-4), who have lost five of seven (2-4-1). Jimmy Howard made 28 saves.

Stone gave the Senators a 3-2 lead at 7:08 of the third period, knocking home a loose puck in the crease for his 16th goal. He has 12 points (seven goals, five assists) in his past 10 games.

Tierney scored into an empty net on the power play at 19:42 for the 4-2 final.

The Senators took a 1-0 lead at 8:19 of the first period when Tierney scored off a pass from Ryan Dzingel to finish a 2-on-1 break.

Stone had a goal taken away by replay review at 9:25, but Chabot gave the Senators a 2-0 lead at 13:57. Chabot, coming off the bench, one-timed Colin White‘s pass under the crossbar for his ninth goal.

The Red Wings cut it to 2-1 at 18:20 when as Tyler Bertuzzi intercepted a clearing attempt and slid the puck to Glendening for a backhand into the top of the net.

Larkin tied the game 2-2 at 12:08 of the second period, coming out of the penalty box and taking a pass from Frans Nielsen before scoring on a breakaway. Larkin has nine points (four goals, five assists) in a six-game point streak.
