Panthers defeat Flyers with two goals in third period

SUNRISE, Fla. — Jonathan Huberdeau scored with 1:06 remaining to lift the Florida Panthers to a 2-1 victory against the Philadelphia Flyers at BB&T Center on Saturday.

Huberdeau one-timed Aleksander Barkov‘s centering pass on a 3-on-2 rush.

Mike Hoffman tied the game 1-1 with a power-play goal at 13:16 of the third period for the Panthers (16-15-6), who were coming off a 5-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on Friday but have won four of their past six games. James Reimer made 34 saves, and Barkov had two assists.

Rookie Carter Hart, making his fourth NHL start after being recalled from Lehigh Valley of the AHL on Dec. 17, made 34 saves for the Flyers (15-17-5).

Philadelphia defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere, who was born in nearby Pembroke Pines, Florida, scored at 1:45 of the first period on a wrist shot from the left face-off circle after taking a feed from Jordan Weal.

Hoffman scored his Florida-leading 18th goal after taking a centering pass from Huberdeau in the slot.
