Hischier, Devils rally past Golden Knights in OT

NEWARK, N.J. — The New Jersey Devils rallied from a pair of three-goal deficits to take a 5-4 overtime win against the Vegas Golden Knights at Prudential Center on Friday.

Nico Hischier scored the winning goal at 41 seconds of overtime.

Travis Zajac, Miles Wood, Kyle Palmieri and Brett Seney also scored for the Devils, who trailed 3-0 after 9:22 and 4-1 at 3:57 of the second period.

William Karlsson, with two goals, Alex Tuch and William Carrier scored for Vegas (18-15-1), which is 9-3-0 in its past 12 games.

Keith Kinkaid made 14 saves in relief of Cory Schneider to earn the victory for the Devils (11-13-6), who have won twice in their past 10 games (2-4-4).

Marc-Andre Fleury, who made 37 saves, lost for the third time in his past 13 appearances. 

Karlsson scored on the power play at 3:57 of the second period to make it 4-1. The top-line center has four goals in his past three games and has a team-leading 13.

Schneider allowed three goals on seven shots. He was replaced by Kinkaid at 9:36 of the first period.

Schneider, who last won on Dec. 27, 2017, is 0-15-3 in his past 19 starts. 

Tuch scored to make it 1-0 at 1:19 of the first period. Karlsson scored to make it 2-0 at 7:45, and Carrier scored at 9:23 to make it 3-0 and end Schneider’s appearance.

Zajac scored on the power play at 2:59 of the second period to make it 3-1, but Karlsson answered with his power-play goal 58 seconds later.

Wood made it 4-2 at 10:21 of the second period. Palmier made it 4-3 with his 17th goal of the season at 6:24 of the third period.

Seney tied it 4-4 at 14:55 of the third period.

The Devils played without forward Taylor Hall (lower body), who leads New Jersey in scoring with 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in 29 games.
