NEWARK — Taylor Hall is not playing for the New Jersey Devils against the Vegas Golden Knights on Friday because of lower-body soreness.
The forward, who won the Hart Trophy voted as NHL Most Valuable Player last season, leads New Jersey with 31 points (eight goals, 23 assists) in 29 games.
“It’s not anything major, it is just going to depend on how he feels tonight whether he will play or not,” Devils coach John Hynes said after the morning skate.
Hall was replaced by forward John Quenneville, who was called up from Binghamton of the American Hockey League on Friday. He had no points in five games with the Devils this season.
The Devils, looking to avoid a third straight loss, were 1-4-4 in their past nine games.
Golden Knights forward Max Pacioretty, who has 18 points (10 goals, eight assists) in 28 games, was scratched with an undisclosed injury. He was replaced by Ryan Carpenter.
