CALGARY — Johnny Gaudreau and Sean Monahan combined for 10 points for the Calgary Flames in an 8-5 win against the San Jose Sharks at Scotiabank Saddledome on Monday.
Gaudreau scored twice with three assists, and Monahan had five assists.
Matthew Tkachuk and Elias Lindholm each had one goal and two assists for the Flames (23-12-4), who are first in the Pacific Division. David Rittich made 28 saves.
Joonas Donskoi scored twice for the Sharks (21-12-7), who had won two in a row. Aaron Dell made 19 saves.
Mikael Backlund scored on the first shot at 1:10 of the first period to give Calgary a 1-0 lead. Lukas Radil tied it 1-1 at 6:33.
Backlund scored his second at 10:55 to make it 2-1, and Mark Giordano scored on the power play with 2:36 left to push the lead to 3-1.
Brent Burns scored on a one-timer on the power play make it 3-2 at 3:55 of the second period. Tkachuk made it 4-2 at 10:47.
Sam Bennett scored at 16:06, but the Sharks successfully challenged for goalie interference. Donskoi scored 1:16 later to make it 4-3.
Gaudreau set up Lindholm on a 2-on-1 to make it 5-3 with 27 seconds left in the second.
Donskoi scored his second 48 seconds into the third period to get San Jose within 5-4. James Neal scored his first goal in 25 games 2:12 later to put Calgary up 6-4.
Gaudreau scored his 20th of the season to make it 7-4 at 4:48, and again at 6:29 to extend the lead to 8-4.
Joe Thornton scored on the power play to make it 8-5 at 13:15.
