Dumba out at least three months for Wild

Matt Dumba is out at least three months for the Minnesota Wild. He underwent surgery for a ruptured right pectoralis muscle in his chest on Wednesday.

The 24-year-old defenseman was injured in a 2-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Dec. 15. He leads Wild defensemen with 12 goals. His 22 points and 23:23 average ice time in 32 games are second among Wild defensemen to Ryan Suter, who has 26 points (four goals, 22 assists) and is averaging 26:07 in 35 games.

The Wild (17-15-3) visit the Chicago Blackhawks at United Center on Thursday (8:30 p.m. ET; ESPN+, FS-N, NBCSCH, NHL.TV).

“It really hurts, there’s no question,” general manager Paul Fenton said last week. “I was really glad at the way our defense was playing. We had balance on there. But now we’ve got some guys that have to get used to [new partners], get continuity and become acclimated.”
