Matt Dumba will be out at least one week for the Minnesota Wild because of an upper-body injury.
The 24-year old defenseman left a 2-1 loss to the Calgary Flames on Saturday with 1:33 remaining in the first period and didn’t practice Sunday or Monday.
Dumba leads all NHL defensemen with 12 goals. His 22 points and 23:23 average ice time in 32 games are second among Wild defensemen to Ryan Suter, who has 26 points (four goals, 22 assists) and is averaging 25:47 in 32 games.
Center and captain Mikko Koivu is expected to return when the Wild play the San Jose Sharks at Xcel Energy Center on Tuesday (8 p.m. ET, FS-N, NBCSCA, NHL.TV). Koivu, who missed four games after sustaining a lower-body injury against the Flames on Dec. 6, has 21 points (four goals, 17 assists) in 27 games this season.
Minnesota (17-13-2, 36 points) is six points behind the Colorado Avalanche for third place in the Central Division and three points behind the Edmonton Oilers for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference.
